Today we are thrilled to announce that we’ve added Windows to the growing list of platforms we support, including iOS, Android and Unity. Developers and mobile marketers can expect the same full-featured set of services available to other platforms, with the ability to use Appboy for both desktop and mobile apps. The launch distinguishes us as one of the few mobile solutions that provides comprehensive support for both Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8, and marks the first time the platform can be used natively on desktops.
The news comes at an opportune moment, as the Windows App Store continues its rapid growth – passing 200,000 apps and 250 million downloads at the end of 2013 – and the Windows community gears up for Build, Microsoft’s annual developer event in April. Windows Phone devices in particular have seen extraordinary growth in emerging markets, with the latest numbers revealing that the Windows Phone outsold the iPhone in 24 countries around the world, including India, Egypt and South Africa.
Appboy’s support for the Windows OS will mark the dramatic expansion of our network, introducing Appboy’s app marketing automation services to millions of Windows devices. A new community of developers and marketers can now take advantage of Appboy’s functionalities to help engage and maintain user loyalty, which is crucial in an increasingly competitive marketplace where 46% of users stop using an app after the first month.
In addition to being marketer friendly, we’ve strived to make integration easy by publishing its internal libraries to NuGet. Developers can therefore integrate Appboy with minimal work and manual setup, making it simple to get up and running. By accommodating 16 push notification types alongside the rest of the platform’s features, marketers are poised to make their apps an integral part of their users’ daily experience. In addition, Appboy and Nokia will soon partner to highlight Appboy’s services on DVLUP, a rewards program that helps developers become more successful.
